Animal Farm
Realised theatre production
By George Orwell, adapted by Peter Hall
Lyrics by Adrian Mitchell
Music by Richard Peaslee
Directed by Becks Granger
Assistant Director: Sophie Allen
My role: Set & Costume designer
Location: Lichfield Garrick Theatre
This musical adaptation of George Orwells classic was done by Lichfields Young performers group (ages 14-25). With the addition of the character 'Boy' acting as a narrator who reads the story of Animal Farm, we decided to set this production within the boys bedroom which slowly transforms into a toy-like farm. We set this piece between a modern day bedroom and a roughly 1920s style farm. We took inspiration from the angular shapes and ordered chaos within cubist and Avante Garde artworks, taking inspiration from artists such as Olga Rozanova and Kazimir Malevich. Each fragmented set piece was movable and transformed into different key elements within the world
